A Brief Stint as an European Explorer:
In February of 2003, Casper and two of his friends packed their bags and flew to Budapest, where they began a six month trek around the European continent. By the time he returned, he had bought shot glasses in Hungary, Czech Republic, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, France, Andorra, Spain, Portugal, Brussels, Germany, Netherlands, Denmark and even Luxembourg. His most memorable endeavors included visiting the Vatican City, wine tasting in Portugal, beer consuming in Germany, hiking up a volcano, driving down Sicilian streets, walking through the black forest, running with the bulls, and one night in Rome that his mother will never find out about.
Post College:
After returning to Silver Spring, MD from college, Casper began his career at a video game company. After three months he was responsible for the entire graphic design department. From there he has continued his career within the DC metropolitan area working for advertising agencies, design firms, marketing departments, print publishing, web publishing, and finally software training. He continues to attend seminars, classes, and conferences in design related subjects such as; Adobe's Creative Suite, QuarkXPress, Web design coding standards, and other various computer related topics. He is frequent attendee of the Washington, D.C. InDesign Users Group.
College Years:
At SCAD, Casper initially pursued his interest in architecture. After a brief exploration with furniture design, he finally and officially declared his major in graphic design by his second year. Casper was employed by the school as a resident assistant for his second year. During that time, he organized social and educational programs. In 1996 he graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor's of Fine Arts Degree, focusing in Graphic Design. By this time, he had given up on baseball, drums, and theater, but had continued his practices of the Japanese martial art, aikido.
Early Years:
Born in a small suburb outside of Washington, D.C. Casper Uhl began his interest as an artist at an early age. Earning high scores and winning artistic competition awards in elementary school gained him recognition by his teachers who placed him into a more advanced "talented and gifted" middle school program. His achievements at Springbrook High School in arts and mathematics were also noticed and in 1990 his art portfolio earned him access to a specialized visual arts program at Einstein High School, where he enrolled in college-level art classes. He attended both high schools simultaneously and was publicly recognized at Springbrook's end-of-the-year ceremony with awards for "Stage and Set Design", and an individual achievement award for "Outstanding Artist". In 1992 he graduated from Springbrook High School with honors and scholarship to the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). Throughout his high school years Casper also continued his interests in percussion music, baseball, martial arts, and theater set design.
